Open Question: Question for any one who has attended both Kirov, and Walnut Hill?
I basically already asked this question, but I have some more to add. First of all, this question is mainly for people who have attended both Kirov Academy, and Walnut Hill SUMMER DANCE (preferably not youth dance, because I have already gone to that), and are about my age (I’m 12, so people that are like 11-13 or so), although any one that has attended either of these programs (including Walnut Hill Summer Youth), and is any age, I would love if you could answer this question. Also if you could write which program you attended, and what age you were when you attended it/them, that would be great! So, I got into Walnut Hill Summer Dance with a big scholarship. It now would only cost $2,000. I got into Kirov with no scholarship, so it costs about $6,500. Kirov was my first choice, but it is pretty hard to turn down that scholarship, and I think they might not offer it next year if I don’t except it, but I’m also concerned that Kirov might not except me next year if I don’t go. I liked Walnut Hill last year, but Summer Youth wasn’t all that challenging, so the director told me to audition for Summer dance instead, but I don’t know how good that program is. I have heard things about how Kirov pushes people until they have serious injuries, and I’m going threw my growth spurt, and often times my knees and ankles hurt so much I can’t take ballet class, and it would not be good if I got an injury from Kirov ignoring me if I’m in pain. One of the boys from my ballet school went to the Kirov last year, and he came back with a back injury. It didn’t last very long but… My parents are concerned about how far away Kirov it too. I live in Massachusetts, and Walnut Hill is only about an hour and a half away. If I went to Kirov, it would take a lot longer for my parents to get there if I needed them for some reason (e.g. injury or asthma) My parents, and my ballet teacher are also concerned about how sensitive I am. I know that the teachers at Kirov aren’t exactly teddy-bears, and I can be a little bit touchy, so… Yeah. I usually take corrections or criticism well, and that isn’t really a concern of mine, but my parents are worried. I probably can go to the Kirov for the summer next year, but the thing is that I doubted that I would get it at first, so I was like, “O.k, if I get in, I will be soooooo happy and I soooo want to go!” But then Walnut Hill offered a scholarship, and Kirov was so expensive, and this and that etc, etc… Any ways, basically, I would like you to tell me what you think of the two programs, and any other advise you can give me. Thank you all soooooooo much!
