Customer Review: Fun, inexpensive, easy to fly chopper
For a mere $30, this helicopter is hard to beat. The twin contra-rotating main rotors cancel out the torque/spin effect and make this chopper easier for beginners than comparable products that have only one main propeller. Some people have reported trim/spin issues, but when I flew this thing it needed no trim at all and the trim control was always set to neutral.
As far as foam-bodied rc choppers go, this thing is fairly durable. It has survived mid-air attacks from a cat, as well as hard crash landings and collisions with wall fixtures, and it still flies. Once I flew it into the ceiling fan, and it lost one of the lower blades, and even with only 7 main blades instead of 8, the chopper STILL FLEW! Replacing the broken main blade was pretty easy, and the replacement blade kit is also inexpensive.
The chopper has left/right turn control, and up/down control, which is all you should expect for the price and size. Add a small paperclip to the nose and it will have a constant forward motion to it, and it only took me a little bit of practice to get the thing to go where I wanted it to go.
Ive seen it fly for about 4-6 minutes per battery charge, again this is not bad for the price and size. Recharging is simple to do and doesn’t take long. A 15 minute recharge is pretty quick in my opinion.
I like this rc helicopter quite a bit, and I would recommend it to anyone. I was very satisfied with this helicopter for the price, especially because of the contra-rotating main rotors that cancel out the torque/spin effect. Lots of fun and easy for beginners!
Customer Review: Fun, but not great fun. I want more control.
I got this after Christmas. It was on clearance for $20 at a local department store. Works OK, but not great.
Instructions say to trim at the start if each flight. I have never been able to get trim set. I always trim full left, and the helicopter still rotates right, only slower the more left trim I give it. So trim doesn’t work! I have to constantly bump left for any chance at straight flight. So I usually end up doing S flights in the living room.
The copter is designed to move forward automatically so no hover. That’s OK. And if you put a small weight on the nose (dime) the forward motion becomes faster (that part is fun), but it’s still hard to control due the trim problems.
It’s pretty durable. I’ve crashed it multiple times (falling behind TV, lamp crash, wall crash) and it’s still flying. It has a small chip in one of the eight rotors, but doing fine.
It’s infra-red, so it has to be in line of site with transmitter, so no flying behind or around large objects. If the copter is close to you and down low, forget it, no controls. (IR receiver is on bottom of copter, near the back, in front of the fake antenna).
Don’t run the full charge out. It will start to loose altitude as battery gets close to empty. Shut it down then. If you don’t, the copter stops responding to the transmitter and falls to the floor with the rotors still running for about 5 seconds. The only thing you can do is watch it flail around, hoping it doesn’t strike anything.
So it’s kinda fun, kinda frustrating, and I’m glad I only paid $20 for it.
