Four Puzzles in a Tricky Box – Gift Set This great puzzle set in an attractive handcrafted box is a perfect gift giving of 5 popular puzzles. The set includes the Soma Cube, the Star Puzzle, the Snake Puzzle, the Diamond Cube and the extra puzzle of separating the X in the box. The Soma cube is a solid dissection puzzle invented by Piet Hein in 1936 during a lecture on quantum mechanics conducted by Werner Heisenberg. Seven pieces made out of unit cubes must be assembled into a 3x3x3 cube. The pieces are used to make a variety of 100 interesting 3D shapes and are given with the instructions. The Star puzzle’s story begins a long time ago in a small village in India, where a young farmer somehow learned to fly just before his wedding. With this new ability, he found the perfect gift for his bride to be: he plucked a star from the heavens. Unfortunately he was so nervous about the upcoming nuptial that he let the star fall to the earth and it subsequently broke into six pieces. Fortunately for him, he frantically rebuilt it in time to present it to his new wife… And lived happily ever after. Reconstruct this ancient fable with this celestially challenging puzzle. The Snake puzzle:unravel this cube into a snake (just twist and swivel the 27 wooden cubes to uncoil the serpent) then try putting it back together. This legendarily difficult brain-teasing puzzle will have you undulating in no time. Skill and patience will be tried when turning the snake back into the original cube. The Diamond Cube is made of 12 wooden pieces. All diamonds are at least 99000000 million years old and formed under intense heat and pressure 100 miles below the earths surface. Luckily you’ll have the liberty to perform a similarly act with this intensely challenging puzzle at your leisure – maybe even in an air-conditioned room! But be warned: you might need just as much time! Well, to make things easier instead of forming carbon into diamond crystal, you’ll only need to assemble the wooden pieces into a diamond shape.

I have an older version of this. It is a great puzzle and learning tool. My 5 year old loves it, but the smaller states don’t have names on the pieces because the pieces are so small the names won’t fit. They should fit on the board itself.

Customer Review: A great toy for learning the States
I read reviews for many giant maps of the US before deciding on this one, and it was a GREAT choice! I have a 6 year old and a 4 year old and their dad travels a lot for work. I wanted to have a great hands-on tool to help them connect with his travels better and this has worked wonderfully. They love putting the puzzle together over and over and over! The foam pieces are nice because they are more durable than cardboard pieces for repeated use. It also makes it easy to trace the states onto a seperate paper in order to learn about “where Daddy is today”. I like that each state is it’s own piece – it allows the kids to learn the shape and placement of the State better without being impossible to solve.I also like that some of the states have cutout pictures on them. My 6 year old has actually remembered some of the states by what picture is on it…when dad was in Colorado, he said “oh I remember, that is the one with the mountains on it”. All around a great investment!

This is generally a great puzzle. I love the fact that almost every state is its own piece (exception: Connecticut and Rhode Island are together in one), and it’s a great size for doing on the floor or on the kitchen table. My home-schooled kids have loved it!

This is my son’s favorite puzzle. It’s chunky so he can handle the pieces easily and it’s challenging enough for a 2 year old. He loves it so much, he still does it at 32 months old!
Customer Review: Great multi-piece wooden puzzle
This is a great puzzle–I disagree with the first reviewer that it doesn’t make sense. It is an excellent next step up from the “one piece per hole” wooden puzzles. Both my kids started playing with this around age 2. They liked the challenge of multiple pieces but still were not quite ready for the fine-motor skills required to snap jigsaw pieces together.
The puzzle pieces sit in a nice wooden board that has the picture underneath, so there is a visual cue for how to put the pieces in. The pieces are chunky and easy to grasp. I’m actually looking for another puzzle like this for my daughter!

Customer Review: beautiful puzzles
The Melissa & Doug Mix-n-Match puzzles are beautiful and cute! I didn’t realize only a small section of each animal (only one leg) would be the piece (I thought it was going to be the whole body of each animal), but this is still a great puzzle and my 1-year-old daughter likes to play with it. Eventually she’ll learn to match the animals up with the pieces/colors. I really enjoy the artwork of this series of puzzles.

Customer Review: Great Learning Tool
I bought this puzzle for my nephew who just turned 3. I had previously bought one for my 1 year old daughter. She loves it so much and has actually learned her letters from this puzzle and that is why I bought one for her cousin. It is a great puzzle. Some of the pictures behind the letter are an odd choice for little kids, but they don’t care. And if you have dogs, be careful because they chew up easily due to the wood-type material they are made out of. Our “T” is all chewed up now, but still works. I love Melissa and Doug toys. My next purchase will be the “Numbers” puzzle because my daughter is now starting take interest in counting. Anyway, if you have a young child who is old enough to start learning the alphabet, this is a great puzzle!

Customer Review: Excellent quality
This floor puzzle is a great way to learn about the states. My daughter is 4, and after doing it a couple times with help, she can now do it herself. I’m not sure I’d recommend this for a child younger than 3 as it’s challenging with 50 pieces, but everything about it is top-notch. The “suitcase” it comes in for storage is very sturdy and wonderful quality. This would make a fabulous gift.

Loved the mystery puzzles! ive been solving puzzles for years and had never even HEARD of a mystery puzzle!! im hooked now so far my fiance and i have put together 3 of the 4 in the series. cant wait to get started on the 4th puzzle and see the big secret!!!
