Customer Review: POTF Red 5
This is a really nice rendition of the X-Wing, even just leaving it on the shelf. Mine is over 10 years old, and was lost, I found it recently, and set it on a shelf. The ship is BIG, it is a least the size of the original Studio Scale models used for filming, and maybe even a little larger.
The detailing is excellent for a toy, the proportions are nearly perfect except for the rear of the hull where the R2 is, that “machinery” strip is a little wide, but only a model builder or professional would notice that. Otherwise, the ship is very close to the original.
The markings, “stickers” in this case, are accurate to the Red 5 paint on the original. I do remember that they have to be applied to the ship by the user, so an adult will need to do that or they will be a mess.
The ship has little educational value, other than being a nestalgic toy.
The only negetives I see with it are that the four wing tip cannons can be easily lost as they detach from their monts fairly easily. A little Super Glue could fix that, though.
The wings are a little thin and they don’t open as wide as the original model, but could be made to with some modelling work….
Other than that, it’s a beautiful rendition of this very sleek and dangerous looking fighter from Star Wars.
