Once you start getting into collecting Barbie dolls you usually find yourself wanting to know a little bit of the history of Barbie, especially if you are interested in the vintage Barbie dolls. What you may not realize is that Barbie is named after a real little girl, and for that matter, so is Ken.

Barbara Handler is the daughter of Barbie‘s inventor, Ruth Handler. Ruth Handler had noticed that when her daughter played with her paper dolls, she frequently pretended that the dolls were grown-ups. Most dolls available in the early 1950s were baby dolls so Ruth thought that might represent an opportunity for her husband Elliot’s toy company, Mattel.

Barbie is indeed the most popular doll in the world. Since its launch at the American Toy Fair in New York City last March 1959, Barbie continued to capture the hearts of girls and women worldwide regardless of their age, race, and status in life.

Studies say that the Barbie doll is a $1.9 billion dollar industry yearly. Mattel Inc.-the creator of Barbie dolls-has even claimed that over three Barbie dolls are sold every second worldwide. Barbie was invented, designed, and created by Ruth Handler, the cofounder of Mattel in 1959. She was inspired from a Lilly Doll brought from Germany and is named after Ruth’s daughter, Barbara.

Customer Review: Educational tool puzzle
My granddaughter likes to help daddy with home repair projects, so I bought her this puzzle + a tool box of her own. Together they are very educational. She can tell you what each is for and can “fetch” daddy the correct tool when asked.
