Barbie Dolls of the World Princess of Japan Customer Review: KIMONO EDUCATION
This is the first American toy company who didn’t make the kimono look like a T’ang period Chinese dress. In which many American Companies do in which shows their lack of education in that department. This kimono is actually a kimono. Different kimono are classified by the type of sleeve on it. In this case this kimono is called a “furisode” (furi- blowing/flowing sode- sleeve) that is still worn by unwed girls/young women today for formal functions. Now since she is going to a public garden and wearing furisode. That means it’s New Years or to view the blossoming of cherry or plum blossoms at the beginning of Spring. In which is a formal event. Only during the Meiji Period that the women of the Imperial Family wore Junihitoe on a daily basis. Only time the junihitoe is worn today is during the coronation of a new emperor or the wedding of the emperor or crown prince.
Customer Review: Nice, But More of the Same…
I own two previous Japanese Barbies that also wear traditional kimonos: A “Doll of the World” Japanese Doll that was made around 1996 or 1997; and the New Year’s “Oshogatsu” Barbie from 1994 (I think), that was originally produced for sale in Japan only. This new “Princess of Japan” is equal in quality to these older dolls, but there’s nothing outstanding about “Princess” in its own right.
Since the doll is mass-produced, the designs on Barbie’s kimono are printed (with a rather dull finish), rather than embroidered or brocaded (as would be the case with a real kimono). Of course, to create such designs in an authentic manner would triple or quadruple the price of the doll. You may recognize Barbie’s face on the doll; for the past several years Mattel has used this mold repeatedly on many “collectors” dolls to depict Barbies of various ethnicities. I liked it originally, but I’ve seen it way too many times now! I didn’t care for the extremely pale face, either
What we think of today as the kimono is really the final development of centuries of traditional Japanese clothing. There were many other styles of dress available to Japanese women prior to the 20th century; I wish the doll’s designers would have chosen one of those alternate outfits (read Liza Dalby’s infomative book, “Kimono” for more historical info).
In fact, on the back of “Princess of Japan’s” box is a description and illustration of one of those earlier garments, called a “junihitoe” or “twelve layer dress,” a rather beatiful and elaborate garment that is still worn today by female members of the Japanese royal family during certain formal occasions. I wish Barbie was wearing one of those!
If “Princess of Japan” Barbie is your first Japanese-themed doll, then I would recommend it. But as a long-time Barbie collector, I want something more outstanding.

My son is a huge race fan, this set fit the bill. He and I built it together, 1 1/2 hr. to construct everything and it gets played with on a daily basis. Several specialized Lego’s make up the set, once it gets mixed with his other sets, it should be fun to try and find all of the pieces!! If your kid likes race cars you cannot go wrong with the set.

Visit Your Local Outdoor Toy Store to Encourage Your Kids to Head Outside Again
Children all over America are suffering from a new epidemic. Between the fatty foods that we are feeding them and their immense lack of any exercise, they are all quickly becoming overweight and obese right before our eyes. You can blame it on whatever you want from spending too much time in front of the television to eating far too many fatty foods, but the truth of the matter is that they are simply not getting enough outdoor exercise anymore. Whether it is from concerns about air contaminated by smog or simply because kids these days will use any excuse not to go outside whenever possible, the majority of children receive little to no exercise on a daily basis. Even though PE classes and walking around a schools campus all day long is a start to help kids get back into shape, they need to spend more time being physical while at home too if they ever hope to shed the pounds. One of the best ways to get kids to head back outside is to treat them to a variety of fun toys from an outdoor toy store toys which must be used outdoors or not at all.
The process of moving your kids from the living room out onto your grass is going to be a long and lengthy one. Many kids are firmly planted to the couch and cannot be budged unless you bribe them in some way, shape or form. Next time you and your family head out to your local shopping center, do some research and check out which stores have an outdoor toy store section that may sell some great outdoor toys and games. If you take your kid into the outdoor toy section, he or she may become amazed by some of the great things they offer. From gliders to playground sets to trampolines, there is practically nothing there that any average kid wouldnt go bananas for. Once you have your kid hooked on some of the cool outdoor toys, you can surprise him or her by simply bringing that toy home one day. Your kid will love it, love you for it and will likely begin to make great strides to break himself from the chains that bind him to the couch in front of the television. Unfortunately, as with all toys, the fun factor of whatever you purchase may wear out over time, but the seeds are planted, and after you are able to get your kid outside once you can easily do it again, possibly even without the need for toys from an outdoor toy store.

The main reason I am giving THE SUPER FIST SMASH IRON MONGER Action Figure a five star rating is out of all the Iron Man 7″ Toys that Hasbro manufactured in movie merchandise is the fact my son absolutely loves it. Iron Monger is made very well. Kids can be pretty tough on their toys; however, when a figure stands the test of playing with on a daily basis and doesn’t break it is well worth the price.

My daughter is six and she also loves K’nex – - they are a great toy for them to play with together. We would recommend K’nex to everyone!

My 2.5 year old daughter plays well with these Kid Knex kits, my 6 year old son loves them and my 8 year old son will also join the other two when they have these pieces out. Even an adult with free time would enjoy this creative activity that comes with a suggestions poster. The best thing about these PALS sets over similar ones, is that they have interesting eyes, hands, and feet pieces to build creatures that are more fun for my kids than building cars or buildings. Manipulating these pieces to fit together would probably be too difficult for a child under 2.5

My daughter recieved this puzzle when she was about a year and a half old. We love it! She can hear the shape sounds as she places the pieces into the puzzle. I would hear “Ock-a-don” coming out of her mouth (octagon) on a daily basis.
