Bond With Your Kids Using Educational Puzzles

My kids won’t let me get rid of any of their puzzles, yet. At almost 6 and 8 years old, they still love even their earliest 4 piece puzzles. I am not a saver. I always look very forward to having a few things to donate each time the truck comes through our neighborhood. However, anytime I bring up disposing of a puzzle, either one or both of them objects.

Toys That Aid Development

The earlier ages are the best time for kids to pick up new skills and knowledge. From around two years of age children have brains like sponges, able to take in and retain new knowledge and ideas. This is the period where they easily pick up new languages and skills that would take an adult twice as long to master. Of course their attention span is not so great. So basically they are able to absorb new ideas and skills but during a short time period, before they move onto something else.

Tom Raider: Underworld Lara Croft Action Figure

4148%2B5PN8wL Tom Raider: Underworld Lara Croft Action Figure Tom Raider: Underworld Lara Croft Action Figure Lara Croft is back! Brains, beauty… and booty! Tomb Raider fanatics will love this! Lara Croft returns for more action in Tomb Raider: Underworld, the 8th installment in the mega-popular video game series. And the adventure continues in action figure form, as well! This superb Lara stands approximately 7-inches tall and features a wealth of exciting accessories. Keep her all to yourself or give this to your favorite Tomb Raider fanatic. They’ll love you for it!
Customer Review: Better then the last one….
I just Got this figure, It’s a NECA so it can’t be that good, hollow and a lack of movment. But the sculpt is better then the last LC figure they made, I would only give it a 3 but the face the new face that is, is the nicest I have seen, they gave her it more rounded profile, and she is just real cute now, so 4 stars for a nice face improvement, but only 2 guns Eeeee….. Oh well if you are in to Tomb Raider Figures then get this one for sure.
Customer Review: NECA almost gets Lara Croft done right!
After having a few bad experiences with NECA’s Tomb Raider Player Select line, I was reluctant to pre-order this figure. However, after seeing images of the actual figure, I immediately fell in love and ordered it. The sculpt is far better than the previous 7-inch Lara Crofts that we’ve been subjected to by NECA. Articulation is minimal (as usual) and there’s also the bad paint applications (however, this time it isn’t as bad). Lara has the following articulation: a ball-jointed neck, ball-jointed shoulders, ball-jointed torso, swivel wrists, and swivel ankles. For an action figure (make that a Lara Croft action figure) she has quite minimal articulation. Swivel/bendable knees and arms would be a much needed addition to make this an “action” figure, let alone a Lara Croft one. As for paint applications, Lara’s face was dead pale, however, the rest of her body was sunburned. Also her left leg wasn’t properly connected to her body. Despite the obvious lack of quality control on NECA’s part, this Lara came out pretty nicely. Lack of accessories for Lara is another minus. I haven’t played this game yet, but I’m pretty sure she has more guns than just her signature pistols (I guess we could blame that on the recession ;P). If you still want to purchase this figure, make sure you get a good look at it in person, so you won’t be disappointed.

Hearts will be racing, palms will be sweating and brains will be expanding with Electronic Flash Magic Flash Cards. What it Teaches: * Addition tables 0-12 * Subtraction tables 0-12
Customer Review: Weird
I got this for my kids to work on their +/- facts, but there seems to be no rhyme or reason to the facts. I was thinking it would cover 0+0 through 10+10 or 12+12 (and the corrisponding subtraction facts), but there are “facts” in there like 38+2 etc. Since it is timed on the drill (see how many questions you can answer in 60 seconds), it would be nice if the child could type in the answer rather than wasting time waiting for the right answer to appear. They *can* save some time by pushing the > button to show the next answer. When the answer does appear, they can either push “enter” or give the whole little thing a flick. My kids did like doing the flick, but together with pushing the > button, the whole thing is confusing. AND to top it off, while you are trying to think, they have “The Entertainer” playing very loudly (thank goodness you can turn the sound off). My preschooler likes to play with it only for the sounds and flicking. My school-aged children do not.
Customer Review: Fun practice
My daughter really enjoys this product. She is 7 and uses it on her ride to school. It has increased her speed in both addition and substraction. Each day she tries to beat her high score.

New Toys + New Playmates = Better Brain

Some of the stereotypes we have about the brain and aging are being dispelled by recent research. Here are some myths and new reality.

1. Myth: Once you’re born, all you can look forward to is a long and steady loss of brain cells.

REALITY: Stem cells in the brain can create new neurons, and idle neurons will extend their branches to carry signals to and from other neurons indefinitely, under the right conditions.

2. MYTH: We cant get smarter as we age.

Official Top Trumps – Star Wars Bundle

51eUHTkDKUL Official Top Trumps Star Wars Bundle Official Top Trumps – Star Wars Bundle Customer Review: This is one cool card game, a must buy for fans of the force!
This is one cool card game! The game is really addictive and the rules simple and easy enough for any age to play! Each deck has 30 character cards and they’re rated across a range of stats, Height, Brains, Dark Side, Jedi Powers, Battle Skills and Force Factor. After you deal the cards out you take your top card from your pile and pick the best stat, then the other players call out their score for that chosen stat from their top card, the highest or best score from that stat wins the cards called.
What makes it really addictive is as the game goes on it’s also about memory, remembering what cards your opponents have in their hand, so that you can call the best stat on your turn to win the round.
I got Yoda in my hand and he’s really strong on Jedi Powers, but I ended up losing him when he was called on height – so, strategy and memory is helpful to trump other players’ cards.
The player to who wins all 30 cards is the winner. You can add both packs of SW I – III to SW IV – VI decks together for one bigger game or create your own customized game. This game goes anywhere. The Starships deck has a different range of stats, Size, Speed, Firepower, Maneuvering and Force Factor. Each card includes amazing pictures and trivia from all the 6 movies. All 3 decks are packed full of interesting facts and stats. If you’re fans of the Force, you can’t go wrong with this bundle.
