Customer Review: Ahoy, mates!
As a kid growing up in the 1980s, one of my favorite characters on the G.I. JOE cartoon was Shipwreck. Shipwreck didn’t star in many episodes of the series, but I had an uncle who was a Navy veteran and Shipwreck always reminded me of him. Therefore, when Hasbro started re-issuing some of the figures as part of the 25th Anniversary of the animated series, I made sure to pick up SHIPWRECK. The figure is in great shape and Hasbro has done a great job on the detail of the character, from his bright blue eyes to the tattoo on his arm. For differences between this version of SHIPWRECK and the original are that the original came with a roped weapon and one gun whereas this version the figure comes with three guns. Also, the original action figure had much sharper and brighter clothing, the pants were a “bright” dark blue, the shirt was a “bright” baby blue, and the shoes were pitch black. The sharpness of the clothing has been toned down on the figure this time so that all the clothing has a faded, worn look. Recommended for kids who have in interest in the Navy or G. I. Joe or for nostalgic adults.

Customer Review: Gettin’ cheap with the Indian
Second only to the third version of Snake-Eyes and the only version of Scoop, Spirit (before the tacked-on “Iron-Knife” moniker) was my favorite G.I. Joe action figure as a kid.
Recreated here for Hasbro’s 25th Anniversary toyline, Spirit has been completely remodeled and updated and includes new versions of all his original weapons and accessories, including his pet eagle “Freedom”, plus a few new items.
First off, I was pleasantly surprised to see this figure get an update in the 25th anniversary line, simply because he wasn’t the most popular character back in the 80′s and as I recall, didn’t even appear in the cartoon series.
He was simply known as “Spirit” in those days, before getting a name change sometime in the 90′s with the addition of “Iron-Knife.” I guess Spirit just wasn’t tough enough sounding, but if that’s the logic then how do you explain “Chuckles” or a guy named “Barbecue” who doesn’t start fires but puts them out?
Anyway, the idea of remaking Spirit was great, however I do have a few issues with the updated version.
First off, the original’s loin cloth was removable. The poorly sculpted new one is not. Second, if you’re going to name a guy Iron-Knife, you better give him a big fat fighting knife. This new version comes with a cheap little knife with a light brown blade, not even silver, and the big knife on his chest is not only poorly sculpted but not removable.
Third, in an effort to make Spirit’s braided pony tails more manly I guess, they sculpted one to the back and one forward of his head. Bad move in my opinion as the original Spirit has his drapped to both sides.
Might be just me, but I’m a little offended that Hasbro didn’t take as much care in crafting the 25th Anniversary Spirit.
I guess the Native Americans are slighted even in the action figure world.

Customer Review: Cobra Commander’s Worst Nightmare
In 1982 Hasbro relaunched its popular G.I. Joe toys with a series of action figures tied to a new syndicated daily action-oriented cartoon. The series proved highly successful as were the toys tied to the show. That was twenty-five years ago and Hasbro has recently started to re-issue those original action, but in special 25th Anniversary packaging. In the cartoon series, G.I. Joe fought against the world dominion plans of an evil organization called Cobra. The leader of Cobra was a hooded figure named Cobra Commander. He pretty much ran the show for several years until a multi-arc storyline developed in which a new Cobra leader was cloned from the DNA of Julius Caesar, Napolean, Attila the Hun, and Hannibal. That cloned leader was codenamed Serpentor and Cobra Commander hated him. At the time I did, too. Serpentor seemed completely unnecessary (I didn’t learn about how Hasbro was just trying to make more money until years later). However, he did have one of the coolest costumes of a G.I. Joe action figure ever. As part of the first wave of 25th Anniversary toys, Serpentor has been reintroduced in all of his imperial glory. I’m not sure why he’s in the first line being re-issued since he didn’t exist until the original G.I. Joe cartoon had been around for a couple of years, but apparently Hasbro thinks he’s important. Of course, the real reason he’s worth having is because he still has one of the coolest costumes of any action figure ever.

Customer Review: Kicking Down the Doors In a Man’s World
The original G.I. Joe cartoon that Hasbro produced didn’t feature very many women. In fact, in the very first few cartoons, there was only one woman in the whole line: Scarlett. Scarlett. Scarlett is a fiery red who is a part of the G.I. Joe’s Counter Intelligence team who was an expert marksman with the crossbow. Like many of the classic G.I. Joe action figures from the 1980s, Scarlett has been reissued as part of Hasbro’s 25th Anniversary line. The colors of Scarlett’s apparel are about the same as they were with the original figures, though they have been toned down and are a lighter shade. Also, the figure has more points of articulation than the original. Scarlett comes equipped with crossbow, pistol, and figure stand.

Customer Review: One of the standouts in the 25th anniversary line.
Although most people will point to the Version 2 ‘Visor Snake Eyes’ as the default Snake-Eyes in their G.I. Joe collection, i’ve always had a soft spot for the version 3 that came out for this character when this version was first offered in the Real American Hero line. The 25th Anniversary rendition reminded me of why this version of everyone’s favorite ‘Silent Master’ is a standout amoung the myriad of Snake Eyes’ that have been thrown our way over the years.
From a design standpoint, the costume tones down the ‘commando’ aspect of the character and turns up the ‘silent master’ aspect of the character. This version actually looks like he could hang with Storm Shadow in close range martial art combat on equal terms, rather than rely on his long range weapons and his commando skills. He looks every bit the ‘Uber Ninja’ he wa later potryed to be in the comics.
The googles he wears are curved downward and give him an ‘angry’ look that increase the intimidation factor of this Snake-Eyes. The butterfly swords are detachable from his chest and can be used as weapons. From a visual standpoint it looks nice, but from a functionality standpoint it was a strange place to mount swords, but it doesn’t hinder the functionality of the toy whatsoever.
From a toy standpoint, this Snake-Eyes along with Beach Head and Torpedo, is probably the best offering from the 25th anniversary line.
I can easily see this Snake Eyes as getting the most ‘fight time’ amongst young collectors, as the figure has so much functionality and playability. He comes with night vision googles ala Sam Fisher from Splinter Cell which can be lowered or raised, or removed completely. As previously stated, his chest swords dismount and can be used as a pair for close range encounters. He comes with his signature Ninjistu Sword which mounts on his backpack when not in use. His uzi is a newly sculpted gun from the previous two version released for this line and clips on to his belt. And Lastly, his ‘three sectional staff’ rounds out the host of accessories, make him a ‘walking arsenal of death’ ready to strike into the heart of terrorism from the shadows. Cobra beware!
