Customer Review: A Fantastic, But Too Tough To Get, Toy Line Continues!
Sometime back, I saw the first bunch of Movie Masters Dark Knight figures at a local Wal-Mart and was immediately wanting them. Unfortunately, I didn’t have the petty cash at the time. They disappeared FAST, particularly the Joker, and I only managed to snag the Bat myself. Oddly, it seemed they never restocked, and I have never seen those figures again in any other stores, only at outrageous prices on the internet. Still trying to land a Joker figure… (I’ll worry about getting his Thug AFTERWARDS). Anyway, sometime last week, during one of my regular checks to see if they finally got more, I discovered the second wave (a second wave after the first only got stocked once?!!! And only at Wal-Mart stores? Anyone seen these anywhere else? Anyone still seeing Wave 1?). This second wave included a Batman Begins style Batman, the Scarecrow, and a chase figure (good luck finding chase figures of these toys) of the demonic looking Batman from Scarecrow’s fear toxin hallucination. This is one less figure from the first wave (couldn’t they have made us a Gordon figure too?), and, of course, the chase figure was nowhere to be seen. I prefer the Bat costume from Begins, but wasn’t in the mood to buy another Batman figure, but of course, I wasn’t going to walk away without the Scarecrow (though having him and the Bat just makes not having the Joker figure that much more annoying).
The Scarecrow figure, if you haven’t seen it, is too sweet, consistent with this Movie Masters line. It’s highly detailed and looks right out of the movie. The only regret is that the mask he wears is not removable, which could have been really cool (but isn’t that important really). Staying true to the film, you can see some of Crane’s hair coming out the back and his dress clothes under the coat, making him really look like Crane in costume rather than some sort of supernatural Scarecrow monster. Too bad he never wore a hat in the movie though. I always missed the hat. The 6 inch figure has at least 17 points of articulation (wouldn’t be surprised if I missed one or two), and the only true neggie you can say about it is that it has a lame accessory, like the other Movie Masters figures except for Joker. Joker came with a replica of the playing card from the films and an evidence bag to put it in (man, I want that as much as I want the Joker fig), but the other figures just come with replicas of their masks that don’t really fit on anything and are completely unwanted. An accessory for the figure itself to be able to hold would be far more appreciated if you can’t give us more real-life bonuses like the Joker card (frankly, all the Wave 1 figures should have come with the Joker card).
To wrap up, the Scarecrow figure from the new Movie Masters line is awesome, like the line’s other figures, and a great addition to a 6-inch, movie-based superhero collection, which is what I’m working on myself (though I started rather late). Now, if only they’d ship out some more cases of Wave 1, and include Gordon and Liam Neeson’s Ra’s al Ghul for Wave 3. I’m also anxiously awaiting some Movie Masters Superman figures, whether they be from the Christopher Reeve films or Superman Returns (but if they’re from Returns, I hope they make a Lois, mmm). I just hope we don’t have to wait for the NEXT Superman film to get some).
Customer Review: Movie Masters Scarecrow
Like all the Movie Masters figures, this figure is highly-detailed and shows the scarecrow in all his hideous glory (of course it’s not as good as the joker i.m.o.). Found two the other day and bought them both–one for me and one to sell to a friend. They’re both still in the package and I plan on leaving mine in it, but it seems like a really cool figure which far surpasses the ordinary fear-shot scarecrow, and it comes with a knitted cloth mask for crime-scene evidence that looks exactly like the one in the movie. Not sure how rare this thing is, but it definitely doesn’t seem like an item to pass up for any collector or hardcore Dark Knight fan. It’s no joker (and will probably never match it in value), but pretty cool nonetheless.
